Our family-favorite youth activities are coming home to you this year! The box of gifts you received from Temple Israel included a bag of resources for your child – one bag for kids in Preschool through 2nd Grade, and one for kids in 3rd through 5th Grade. Your family can complete any or all of these activities at your own pace, or during the adult services!

On Rosh Hashanah, we read the story of Creation. This family-oriented activity is a great way to explore each of the seven days as you take a walk through Central Park, the Upper East Side, or any community where you may be. Join with another family in the neighborhood for this physically distanced but socially connected exploration of our own backyards. You can do it anytime you want, and if you’re not in NYC, you can adapt your journey to wherever you are!

In your High Holy Day box, you received a small gold bag with a mask and mirror as gifts to you. We hope the mask will remind you of your Temple Israel teen community. We plan to offer plenty of opportunities to learn, actively pursue justice, and meet new friends in our ongoing Jr. Academy, Academy, and YETI programming. The mirror is your pathway for a little soul searching. Open it up and take a look inside while contemplating the following:

Our work this High Holy Day season is to imagine that our tradition, our God, and our people are asking us this question: “איכה” (eicha) – “where are you?” It is the same question asked of Adam and Eve when they disobeyed God and ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. So… where are you?

• Is there something that you wish you had done differently this past year? Alternatively, is there something you’re especially proud of from this past year?
• How have the events of the world impacted you? What have you learned about yourself?
• What mistakes did you make? Who did they impact? Is there someone you should apologize to?
• Have you been engaged with your temple community? Why/Why not? What is stopping you from joining in? What do you think you could gain from being a member of our teen community? 

Teen volunteers are needed to help with some of our programs!

Rockin’ Rosh Hashanah: Fri. 9/18 @ 5pm

Lead mixers (that we will provide) with a small group of Grade K-5 families in a breakout room. Encourage interaction (modeling answering questions, utilizing the chat, using reactions, etc.) during the service.

Jr. Academy Escape the Room: Sun. 9/20 @ 10am

(10th-12th Graders only) Monitor 6th-7th Graders in their breakout room as they attempt to complete the escape room you will already have (hopefully!) completed on Friday night. So don’t give it all away!

Rockin’ Kol Nidre: Sun. 9/27 @ 6pm

Lead mixers (that we will provide) with a small group of Grade K-5 families in a breakout room. Encourage interaction (modeling answering questions, utilizing the chat, using reactions, etc.) during the service.

Teens must be registered for the 2020-2021 Jr. Academy (Grade 6-7) or Academy (Grade 8-12) in order to volunteer.
