Rabbi Peter Young is Assistant Rabbi at Temple Israel of the City of New York. He received his BA in Modern Jewish Studies from San Diego State University, his Masters of Arts in Jewish Education from The Davidson School of Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary, and his Masters of Arts in Hebrew Letters and Rabbinic Ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City.
During his time as a student at HUC-JIR, Rabbi Young was a Nachshon Project Graduate Fellow and recipient of the prestigious Rabbi Aaron Panken Memorial Scholarship. Rabbi Young is a Los Angeles native and spent five summers as a counselor and educator at the Wilshire Boulevard Temple Camps in Malibu, CA. In the summer of 2020 and at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Rabbi Young served as a chaplain intern at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Months later, Rabbi Young joined the Temple Israel family of families as Rabbinic Intern until the conclusion of his studies in May of 2024.
Off the bimah, Rabbi Young enjoys playing basketball and binge-watching TV. Rabbi Young and his wife Cantor Sara Anderson are proud parents of their daughter, Golda. They live on the Upper West Side and cherish spending time in Central Park together with their dog, Olive. Rabbi Young is thrilled to be a part of the incredible clergy team at Temple Israel.
