THREE MINUTES IN POLAND: Discovering a Lost World in a 1938 Family Film by Glenn Kurtz. A spellbinding Virtual Author Event!
Prior to May 22, on your own, watch Three Minutes – A Lengthening, a remarkable documentary (1 hour 11 minutes) about a long hidden sliver of Holocaust history, a home movie shot by David Kurtz in 1938 in a Jewish town in Poland. The footage, mostly in color, are the only moving images left of the Jewish inhabitants of Nasielsk before the Holocaust and are examined to unravel the human stories hidden in the celluloid. Co-produced by Academy Award-winner Steve McQueen, and narrated by Helena Bonham Carter, the film premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2021. It was an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival 2022 and has screened at festivals worldwide. The film is available on Amazon for $1.99 to rent for 30 days.
On May 22 join the zoom to hear Glenn Kurtz discuss his book, Three Minutes in Poland, about his four-year journey to identify the people in his grandfather’s haunting images. Read about the book here and about the author here. You don’t need to read the book to enjoy the program.
