PJ Library Coordinator
Daniella Denn was born in Dallas, TX and moved to New York in 2013. She was lucky enough to find herself at Temple Israel on her first day as a New Yorker. Daniella continues to study her passion – Early Childhood Education, while leading Parenting Center classes Playgroup and Temple Tots. She is able to further her love for children and teaching through her position as PJ Library Coordinator. Daniella is a self-proclaimed foodie who loves traveling, comedy shows and spending time with her friends and family.

Director of Finance
Andrew Fondiller joined Temple Israel in August 2011 as Director of Finance. His prior experience includes working at the educational organization The College Board and his titles have included Finance Director, Budget Director and Controller and at Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, as Director of Budget and Internal Audit. Andrew has a much respected and well-deserved reputation for integrity and professionalism, recognized as a leader with proven skills at motivating organizations at all levels. He loves hockey and water sports.

After graduating from The Cooper Union with a BFA, Elaine worked as an art director in a design studio, based in New York City, that produced annual reports, corporate brochures and magazines for Fortune 500 companies. She has also worked as a freelance designer for nonprofit organizations, creating brochures, stationery and logos. Before joining the staff at Temple Israel Elaine spent seventeen years as a feature page designer at The Record, a large daily newspaper in Bergen County, New Jersey.
Elaine was born and raised in the metropolitan area. She and her husband Alan Finder, who has spent his career at The New York Times, raised a daughter and son in Brooklyn and New Jersey.

Department Coordinator – ECLC
Kadia Kane grew up on Roosevelt Island in New York City. She graduated from American University with a degree in Communications. Prior to joining Temple Israel in October 2016, she worked as an event coordinator for Battery Park City Parks. She loves travelling, watching cooking shows, and rooting for the NY Knicks.

Director of Member Engagement
Born and raised in England, Susanna has spent the last 21 years in New York. She has degrees from the University of Cambridge, the University of London, and a Certificate from the Melton Center Senior Educators’ Program at Hebrew University. Whilst raising three daughters in Manhattan, she worked towards a doctorate in Curriculum Design and Religion at the Teachers’ College, Columbia University.
Susanna spent many years with the Mount Sinai Breast Health Resource Program and most recently worked as the Director of Membership and Programming at Congregation Ansche Chesed. She is excited to join the Temple Israel community and would love to meet you, feel free to drop by. A keen walker, she is also happy to get to know you on a walk in Central Park, her favorite location in New York.

Artist in Residence
Sheldon Low is one of the brightest young stars in Jewish rock music today performing rock concerts, ‘Light Up Shabbat’ services, seminars, and leading Artist-in-Residency weekends in Jewish communities throughout North America. Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Sheldon is a third generation songleader who from an early age developed a strong Jewish identity attending Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy, Solomon Schechter Day School, Camp Ben Frankel, and USY. In high school, Sheldon was fortunate to meet and be mentored by national touring Jewish musician, Rick Recht. In 2005, Low graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and spent nine months working as an engineer before being signed to Jewish Rock Records in 2006. Since then, Sheldon has released four albums. His recordings have been featured in numerous compilations including NFTY Ruach 5775, and his two children’s albums and recordings have been distributed by PJ Library to over 100,000 families around the world.
In 2012, Sheldon became the Artist in Residence at Temple Israel of the City of New York. In 2013, Sheldon started Hallelu Records, an independent Jewish record label based in New York City where he resides with his beautiful partner, Hadar Orshalimy.

Howard Mishkin graduated from Brooklyn College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1976. He worked as an accountant in the commodities industry for over 32 years. He came to Temple Israel in April 2011, as an accounting consultant and later became staff accountant. He enjoys singing, sports and watching television.

John Nelson is a native of New York City who began his career in Facilities/Operations 20 years ago. John attend SUNY Cobleskill and studied Business Management. He has worked diligently to achieve his position of Operations Manager at Temple of Israel, where he manages and leads a staff of 9 which he does with dignity and pride. In his free time John loves spending time with family and friends, playing football, coaching his son, and encouraging his daughter in her activities.

Alissa Platcow is thrilled to be an official member of the Temple Israel team. Originally from Brookline, Mass, Alissa has always been incredibly active in the greater Jewish community. Working with Jewish non-profits on both local and national levels, she has directed national student retreats and engaged students from all different backgrounds in Jewish spirituality. Alissa also holds a degree in music and currently directs musical Shabbatot around the New York area. Her favorite color is purple and she loves to practice guitar, voice and piano.

Assistant Executive Director
Nicholas Salierno was born and raised in Long Island. He graduated from Binghamton University in 2008 with a degree in History. Nicholas joined Temple Israel in 2009 as an Administrative Assistant and now serves as the Assistant Executive Director. In his free time, Nicholas enjoys spending time with his dog, Penny, and is an avid sports fan.

Mario Pagan Sanchez
Mario joined Temple Israel in July 2015 and is a member of our Operations Team.
Laura is the Youth Director here at Temple Israel. A recent transplant from San Francisco, Laura was the Camp Director for a theatre arts camp for the past 2 years, and taught after school programs around the Bay Area. While growing up, she was the President of her Youth Group, and participated in many NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth) functions, including studying abroad for a semester in Israel!

Religious School Assistant Director
Barry Shainker is thrilled to be part of the Temple Israel team as Religious School Assistant Director. A native of Westchester County, Barry grew up at Temple Israel of New Rochelle. After graduating from the University of Delaware, he was a youth advisor at congregations in both Long Island and Westchester before completed the Masters of Arts in Religious Education program at HUC-JIR, the Reform movement’s seminary. Most recently, Barry served as Religious School Principal at Beth Am Temple in Pearl River, NY.
Barry is also a newlywed, marrying Matthew Silverstein. Matthew is the Director of Public Affairs at America Works of New York, a company offering job placement services for underserved and at-risk communities. The couple honeymooned in Italy and the Greek Isles, a trip which Barry is always happy to speak about!

Audrey Silverman was born and raised in White Plains, NY. Before coming to Temple Israel, she worked as an Editorial Assistant for Alfred A. Knopf. Audrey received her BA in Creative Writing from Macalester College. In her spare time, Audrey loves to cook, practice yoga, and sing.

Jenny Tenzer was born and raised in Russia. She earned her Masters of Science in Engineering from Moscow Institute of Technology. Jenny moved to the United States in 1993. She worked for Saving Bank Life Insurance Fund and NY State Society of CPA’s as a computer programmer. Jenny completed her certificate course in accounting at Kingsborough college. She joined Temple Israel as a bookkeeper in 2011. She likes to travel, play piano and spend time with her family and friends.

Andres was born in New York but raised in Colombia. He moved back to New York in 2002. Andres joined Temple Israel in March 2013 and now serves as the Lead Building Coordinator. In his free time, Andres enjoys playing soccer, traveling, and watching movies.
